My View - War for the Planet of the Apes – 3D (2017)

My View
Movie: War for the Planet of the Apes – 3D (2017)
Genre: Science-fiction / Action emotional drama
Runtime: 140 minutes

In a deadly conflict between humans and apes to determine the fate of their species, Caesar the ape leader will suffer unimaginable loss and overcomes them consequently and succeeds in ape’s wellbeing. This movie is sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014).

From the beginning the ape leader character Caesar (played by Andy Serkis) was highlighted throughout and his mission to protect apes from human military group was as clear. Even though this character was designed with motion picture technology, Andy serkis showed his emotions effortlessly. Great characterizations were designed for all the apes and the feelings towards their community were showcased in brilliant manner. Woody Harrelson as The Colonel, given finest performance as obsessed military leader who wants to wipe out ape community. Amiah Miller (Little girl) as Nova portrayed as a bold and kind mute orphan. With limited screen presence her acting was appreciable.

Story and screenplay by Mark Bomback, Matt Reeves was extraordinary they are heart and soul for this movie. Especially screenplay in few scenes involving Caesar and his family or Nova (little girl) interactions with orangutan or conversations between Caesar and colonel where amazing. Though it is slow in few areas it won’t bore the audience due to its emotional connectivity. Weta Digital created the visual effects; the apes were created with a mixture of motion-capture and CGI, which are world class and it’s hard to believe that you’re watching a CGI image.

Background music (BGM) by Michael Giacchino was perfect and sounding he gave for particular scenes were far different from the regular commercial movies. During action scenes one would expect heavy BGM but here you will experience engrossing score. Cinematography was slightly different particularly in few scenes the focus was only on the main character with smudging background. Agreed movie-running time was more than 2 hours but editing was apt.

Hearing to the title one would like to watch breath taking action scenes but here don’t expect them. Believe me it is one of the best movies seen in recent times, do watch it – highly recommended.

Verdict: 4.5 / 5
