Darbar (2020)

Movie: Darbar (2020)
Genre: Action Thriller
Runtime: 2hr 30mins
Writer and director: A.R. Murugadoss

Rajinikanth played the principle character Aditya Arunachalam a police commissioner who solves cases related to drug mafia and women trafficking in Mumbai.

Performance’s wise Rajini’s screen presence and dialogue delivery were extraordinary; he single handedly carried this film on his shoulders. All the hero elevation scenes and action blocks are treat to watch. Nayanthara’s role is incomplete and her performance is just ok. Nivetha Thomas finest role in recent times. Her performance as Rajinikanth Daughter was laudable. She shines in the character and her emotional scenes in the hospital with rajini are praiseworthy. Sunil shetty as villain is a bad choice, his acting and dialogue delivery falls flat and rest of the cast performances are just ok.

Director Murugadoss showcased Rajinikanth in a prefect fashion. He highlighted Rajini’s mannerisms and style in energetic way.  If the same efforts were put into story it would have been great. One can expect a taut screenplay for Murugadoss but it was pretty ordinary particularly in the last 30 minutes. Anirudh Background score was impressive especially in the action sequences. However his songs doesn’t make any impact. Cinematography by Santosh Sivan stands out and editing by Sreekar Prasad was up to the mark. Special mention to the Rajinikanth’s make up it was pretty decent. Production values by Lyca were pretty good.

All-round performance by Rajinikanth and Nivetha will please both fans and regular moviegoers. Hero elevation scenes, action sequences and the father and daughter emotion scenes fill the loopholes in the screenplay.

Rajani’s Darbar Guarantee’s entertainment.
